Pic of the Day - "Days End"

I took this at the end of the day whilst testing the little 18-35mm nikkor on the 14n. First results are very favorable and its nice to have a wide angle lens on a FF sensor to get the benefit of the FOV.

Playing with Chinese Lanterns

Its amazing the colour and form one can find in nature....this a crop from a shot of the seed pod known here as a "Chinese Lantern". Shot at ISO 6 with the 14n which provides very detailed noise free images at that setting.

Liverpool Cathedral - Why I use the 14n...

Colorado Days

Talking to Albert on the Kodak SLR forum over at dpreview got me all nostalgic thinking about my wilder more adventurous days. I managed to find a couple of snaps from my time in Colorado in '88 quite quickly....I'll have to dig for the others. Pics above are low rez scans of prints hence the low quality....

Pic of the Day - "Chinatown"

Liverpool's Chinatown is both one of the oldest and largest in Europe and full of photographic opportunities....

Liverpool City of Culture 2008

Took the 14n for a wander around Liverpool today...the city, as always, and the camera met my expectations.....

Pic of the Day - "Silent Protest"

One mans protest at the development that will eventually overlook his once private garden is to create a "stockade" on his boundary....a story we covered for the papers.

One from Today

Customer reaction.....good or bad?

"Artificial"

Another in the series we are working on....consider it "work in progress":-)

Pic of the Day - "The Fossil"

A rare find, an intact birds skeleton, found in an old chimney being demolished. I thought I'd give it a bit of a workover to enhance the title.

Have I Found Religion?

I don't know why but for some strange reason I seem to be converting quite nice colour images to BW and actually enjoying them. I've even started looking for shots that will convert nicely....must be an age thing....

A couple from today...

Enroute to see a customer early this morning I caught these quick snap's from the roadside....it would have been nice to have been armed with tripod and filters but it was nice to see anyway.

Why I like the 40D "The Local's"

Just a couple of shots of two very imortant local establishments, the corner shop and the local ale house. These shots both taken with the 40D show the matter of fact way it can capture images like this handheld with ease.

Pic of the Day - "The Little Castle by Louis Dobson"

Its not often I go "wow" anymore when I see I shot I like...I normally get of my butt and try and do my own rendition....a similar shot but with my own take on it. Louis Dobson, a regular to the boys and girls over at the the Olympus SLR forum at dpreview, is well known for his works from Portugal..mainly seascapes. Louis has his own unique style, one I've not always agreed with, but his popularity and talent as a photographer is undisputed. Recently however Louis posted the shot above and I simply went "wow"...now this is a shot I'd wished I'd taken myself and one of the few I'd have in my collection that wasn't mine.
Enough said?

Pic of the Day - "The Old High Street"

I actually took this shot yesterday but only got round to processing it today...its my blog it counts:-) Like many northern towns our little town has had its share of hardship and some areas still await redevelopement like these buildings in the Old High Street. Like ghosts of the past to remind us of our recent history....

"The Hidden Fruit" Revisited

Charles over at the Zone 8 site suggested cropping out the stem in this shot as he found it distracting....it's certainly pleasing to the eye but I'm not sure its "better" just different....

Pic of the Day "New York, New York!"

In the previous post I converted this shot to BW but I much prefer in its original almost monchromatic colour version which seems to convey the mood of the city somewhat better....

New York Revisited

Over the last few weeks I've been steadily working through the archives revisiting old files and seeing whats lurking there forgotten. Today I happened upon the New York archive and found a goodly number of shots that have for one reason or another been passed over in the course of several visits across the pond. Anyway here's a selection of unseen work...lol even to me.

Pic of the Day - "Lens Baby"

I have been trying a number of PS actions and amongst them was one that simulates the effects of the Lens Baby. I think it works quite well, although not as good as the real thing.....

Pic of the Day - "Grandfathers"

My Father recently passed some of my Grandfathers belongings to me...these were amongst them and some were won in the Great War. Just a record shot but one I'll frame and mount on my desk just to remind me.....
